Our Lives on Holiday

So apparently today was Veteran's Day? Some kind of national holiday? Which apparently means that places like banks and post offices and other state offices are closed.
And these places remain closed, all day long, no matter how many times you ask me why the postal carrier hasn't yet arrived. Or why the parking lot is empty.
Or is the whole bank really closed? All of the bank? Why so early? Why didn't they schedule the holiday with advance warning?
