Tanabata Picnic

July 10, 2009

Tanabata is a Japanese star festival which takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year. July 7th.

According to the story, the two stars Altair the cow herder and Vega the princess fell in love but her father the king forbade their union. He separated them on opposite sides of the Milky Way. Only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month are they able to meet.

Steve and I celebrated with a surprise picnic at Elderberry Park. It was hot and a little smoky from the forest fires near Fairbanks. Olive was a little mouthy at the other people, but otherwise it was a lovely evening.
